Fox Sports, FIFA, and ESPN Just Had Their Best Month on YouTube and TikTok Ever
Jul 19, 2026 · ShinyPull Team
Everyone tracking the World Cup's effect on social media has been watching the players. Neymar's TikTok, Shakira's comeback numbers, that kind of thing. Meanwhile the accounts posting the actual match footage quietly had the best six weeks of their existence, and almost nobody outside the data was talking about it.
FIFA's TikTok went from a rounding error to a real account
FIFA's TikTok account sat at 128,200 followers on the day the tournament kicked off. It's at 7.9 million now. That's not a typo, and it's not a slow climb either. A federation account that most people had never seen a video from six weeks ago is now bigger than most individual athletes on the platform.
Fox Sports got added to our tracking because of this exact moment
In the eight days we've had Fox Sports on our radar, their YouTube channel added 70,000 subscribers and 129.3 million views, averaging roughly 16 million views a day heading into the final. For a channel that had been sitting at a fairly stable size for years, that's a real, measurable jump tied directly to match coverage.
ESPN and its football-specific channel both climbed
ESPN's main TikTok added 1.5 million followers in six weeks, and ESPN FC, their dedicated football account, picked up another 300,000. Neither number is as dramatic as FIFA's jump, but ESPN was already enormous going in, 58.4 million followers doesn't move the way a 128,000-follower account does. Adding 1.5 million to an account that size is still a real, hard-to-fake surge.
What this actually means
Individual creators go viral off a single clip. What happened here is different: entire institutional accounts, run by federations and broadcast networks, got pulled into the same attention spike as individual creators for six straight weeks. Today's final is the last scheduled event of the tournament, and based on everything we've tracked so far, expect one more real jump across all of these before the numbers settle back down tomorrow.
