MrBeast Has Cut Khaby Lame's TikTok Lead by 12 Million Followers Since August
Sep 26, 2026 · ShinyPull Data Team
For most of 2026, the top of TikTok barely moved. Khaby Lame first, Charli D'Amelio second, MrBeast a distant third, each adding a few hundred thousand followers a month like interest on a savings account. Then on August 3, MrBeast's TikTok gained 1.3 million followers in a day, and it hasn't really stopped since. On August 1 he was 32.9 million followers behind Khaby. Today he's 20.9 million behind.
The week it started
The jump came out of nowhere and then kept going. MrBeast sat at 129.6 million followers from July 30 through August 2. On August 3 he hit 130.9 million. The next three days added roughly 900,000, 900,000 and 700,000. By August 9 he was at 135.3 million, 5.7 million up in a single week.
For context, Khaby Lame, the most followed account on TikTok, added 2.5 million followers in the whole six months from April to September.
We went looking for a trigger and didn't find one clean answer. There's no single announcement lined up with August 3. The most TikTok-flavored thing MrBeast did that week came after the surge had already started: an August 8 YouTube video where 15 people who had made TikToks claiming his challenges are easy competed to keep a mansion. That's a fun coincidence. It isn't an explanation, and we won't pretend otherwise.
Then it settled into a habit
Viral spikes usually fall off a cliff. This one tapered into a pace. After the first week the daily gains shrank to a few hundred thousand, and through September he's been adding roughly 100,000 followers a day, 2.5 million since September 1.
Over the same 25 days Khaby added 200,000. Charli added 1 million. MrBeast is doing in two days what the account in first place does in a month.
TikTok is now out-growing his YouTube
This is the part that changes how to read MrBeast's year. His main YouTube channel is the biggest on the platform and still growing fast: 474 million subscribers on April 1, 518 million now. From April through July it added 36 million subscribers while his TikTok added 4.9 million. YouTube was the engine and TikTok was the side project.
Since August 1 that has flipped. The YouTube channel went from 510 million to 518 million, about 8 million (YouTube rounds big counts, so that's approximate). TikTok added 12.5 million over the same eight weeks. For the first time since at least April, the side project is growing faster than the main event.
He posts less than anyone up there
Here's the strangest part. MrBeast has put out 477 TikToks. Khaby has 1,356. Charli has 3,274. That works out to about 298,000 followers for every video MrBeast has posted, against roughly 120,000 for Khaby and 49,000 for Charli.
Charli built her 160.3 million the TikTok way, with years of daily posting. MrBeast is building his like a YouTuber who happens to also be on TikTok: fewer uploads, bigger swings. Right now the swings are landing.
The other race at the top
While everyone watches MrBeast, the top two are quietly drifting closer too. On April 1, Khaby led Charli by 3.8 million. Today it's 2.7 million. Charli has added 3.6 million followers since April, Khaby 2.5 million.
Khaby took the number one spot from Charli in June 2022 and has held it since. Neither of them has been under this kind of pressure in a long time.
So when does it happen?
If September's pace holds, with MrBeast at about 100,000 a day and Khaby at about 8,000, the 20.9 million gap closes in roughly seven and a half months. That puts TikTok's most followed account changing hands sometime around spring 2027.
Two caveats. TikTok rounds big accounts to the nearest 100,000, so daily numbers at this size move in steps, and the monthly trend matters more than any single day. And a pace can change. August proved it can speed up without warning, which cuts both ways.
But the direction isn't in doubt. Eight weeks ago TikTok's top three was a settled question. Now it's a race, and the account in third is the one gaining.
