Mastodon's Most-Followed Account Is Mastodon Itself. Its Own Founder Is #2.

The official Mastodon account leads with 876,179 followers. Right behind it, at 381,765, is Eugen Rochko, the account belonging to the person who built the platform in the first place. Between them, the top two spots on Mastodon's own leaderboard go to the app and the guy who made it, not to a journalist, a comedian, or a brand.

A leaderboard built on tech and journalism, not entertainment

Once you get past the platform's own account and its founder, Mastodon's top 10 skews heavily toward journalism and technology. Ars Technica, ProPublica, Taylor Lorenz and Brian Krebs-style tech and investigative reporting accounts fill much of the list, alongside Warren Sharp's sports analytics and Der Postillon, a satire outlet in the same vein as The Onion. That's a very different mix than the entertainer and gamer-heavy top 10s on platforms like TikTok or YouTube.

Robert Reich rounds out the top three at 304,695, just a few hundred followers ahead of Warren Sharp in fourth. Past the top five, the counts drop off steadily rather than clustering, with #10 sitting at 132,212, roughly a sixth of what the platform's own account has racked up.
